Greetings, September!
This summer season was a whirlpool of events!
As soon as three Spring group shows in NYC were over, one by one, I headed to New Haven’s Kehler Liddell Gallery. That was my first trip to Connecticut and the first participation in a show over there.
In July, another group show, PaperWorks9, opened at the Upstream Gallery, Hastings-on-Hudson. The show was dedicated to works on paper, or where paper is the main medium. Many of my collages are made on paper and with paper.
In August, one of my dreams came true – I visited the Venice Biennale! The city itself is extremely arty and magical. No wonder it became a bi-annual hub for contemporary art as well. I posted many pictures and reels on my Instagram page AND… I started a new fun project to communicate with my friends and followers, Stoop Talk! In this video series shot on the steps at my porch, I suggest themes we all can talk about: news, artists’ practice, inspiration, and many more. I post it on my Instagram and – drumroll! – on my recently launched YouTube Channel, Artist Oxana Kovalchuk.
On my brand new channel I plan to post videos from my shows, chats on my porch, studio sketches, to name a few. I’m inviting you to subscribe to my YouTube channel and follow me on Instagram. I’d love to know more about my fellow artists and build a community of like-minded people.
While participating in shows and visiting Summer art events, I was blessed to travel with my family. In Turkey, we spent time with my parents who I have not seen since the pandemic started. Then our big family with kids flew to Italy to be at the seaside where I planned to work on my solo show. I have to confess it was quite difficult to make myself work in Italy! Its nature, food, cozy beaches, and small local villages are overwhelmingly beautiful and distracting from work!
Now back in NYC I’m happy to return to my studio that is a sacred place to me. I can meditatively create there, being focused and determined. Looking forward to the Fall season!
